Patricia Iglesias Río

CPCO (Chief People & Culture Officer)

Interview

Patricia, or Pat as we call her in the team, is in charge of the most valuable thing we have in Techsoulogy: people. Pat and her team manage the talent recruitment, onboarding, team building, and values definition. This is one of the most important things to achieve our goals and be a successful company.

Question: How did you get into the programmatic industry?

Answer: It was really by chance. When I joined Tappx I had no previous experience or any kind of knowledge of what the programmatic industry was, so it has been quite a challenge for me.

Q: What is the best part of being a CPO? If you can choose just one thing? 🙂

A: Being able to help the team and create the best possible working environment is the part that I like the most and that motivates me the most. But, at the same time, it’s the most complicated.

Q: Could you list some leadership tips?

A: For me, the key to being a good leader is to be humble, empathetic, and open-minded. Closeness and humanity facilitate the connection with the team and, at the same time, the working relationship.

Q: What skills (or should I say values?) do you look for in the people for your team? And for the company?

A: I defend 100% the values of Tappx and, precisely, they are the ones we look for when we start a selection process. People are brave, honest, involved, ambitious, collaborative, and like to work in a team. From there, more technical skills (Hard Skills) can be developed and improved over time. But the basis is undoubtedly all of the above.

Q: How do you motivate your team to achieve the best results (apart from that big smile you always have)?

A: Hahaha, the truth is that smiling helps a lot. 😛 Transparency, empathy, and closeness are the basis for being able to talk about everything. That helps to motivate when things are not going well, and also helps to shine much more when we are «on fire».

Q: Tell us about a successful result achieved as a team and how did you get it.

A: For me, the biggest challenge we have achieved as a team is to organize ourselves to such an extent that we all know what we are doing, but we have our own little area and we help each other at all times. In People’s department, it’s very important to be coordinated and to know well the colleagues who are part of the team. It would be impossible for each of us to do it 100%, so we complement each other to the maximum.

Q: What do you expect from the future of the industry? What needs to be improved and how human resources can help to achieve it?

A: The industry demands very prepared professionals at the Soft Skills level. We are looking for proactive, active, and ambitious people, but in Tappx, besides, we want very human and soulful people. Human Resources can help a lot because it is the entrance door of talent in the industry itself, so we can redirect the efforts to try (I say try) to get the best possible talent and improve, from inside, the management and the customer service.

Q: Do you have any idea how many emails you send per day? Are more or less than Slack, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn messages?

A: Wow… I send more Slack, Whatsapp, and Linkedin messages than emails, actually. But I’m not fooling you if I tell you that it’s always more than 100…

Q: What is the app you use the most in your daily life?

A: WhatsApp, without a doubt. I think it’s a very agile app that helps a lot to communicate. On a professional level, Slack!

Q: What is the first thing you do when you get home and disconnect from work?

A: Hugging my daughter. A LOT.

Q: What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: That’s a good question… And the answer depends a lot on the amount of money involved, right? hehehehe. What I do know for sure is that I wouldn’t like to disassociate myself from the world of Human Resources. I don’t know in what format I would do it, or where… In Tappx, maybe ??????.

Q: Tell us something fun about yourself.
