David López is one of our Financial Controllers. He is all the time between invoices and Excels trying to make sense of the numbers. This is what a typical workday is like for him.

Question: How did you get into the programmatic industry?

Answer: I came to a colleague’s recommendation. This is the first time I have worked in this sector.

Q: What is the best part of being a Controller?

A: From my point of view is that you have a more global vision of the company.

Q: Could you list some tips to become a good Controller? What are the essential skills needed in your job?

A: Analytical and strategic skills, knowledge of accounting, mastering digital tools, and knowledge of the sector in which the company operates.

Q: Compared to other industries you’ve worked in, what is unique about our sector financially speaking?

A: In the few months I have been here I have not found any differences with other sectors.

Q: How do you organize your day? What tools do you use and which of them are your favorite ones?

A: In addition to the routine tasks, at the start of my working day, my boss set me several tasks to accomplish. Then urgent tasks can always arise during the day. My favourite and most used tool is Excel. I also use the company’s own tools.

Q: What do you expect from the future of the industry? Are we still in a growth phase or may we also be affected by the economic crisis?

A: I believe our sector will continue to grow. But in such a globalised world, it will be affected in some way by the economic crisis.

Q: Do you have any idea how many emails you send per day?

A: It depends on the day, but I don’t usually send more than 5. In my case, I receive more emails than I send.

Q: What is the app you use the most in your daily life?

A: Twitter.

Q: What is the first thing you do when you get home and disconnect from work?

A: Sporting activities (gym, football, cycling) or go for a walk.

Q: What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: Travelling around the world.
