JAVA Team Leader

Interview

We talk with our Java Team Leader about how to motivate the team to achieve the best results, the skills he looks for in colleagues and much more.

Question: How did you get into the programmatic industry?

Answer: By coincidence. I had little experience as a developer and I was looking for a new job. Not looking specifically in this industry, but I ended up here.

Q: What is the best part of being a Team Leader?

A: The greatest thing about leading a team is that, if you are able to manage it successfully, you can do greater things than you would ever do on your own. It’s really challenging for me and I am always looking for new methods to perform better as a unit.

Q: Could you list some leadership tips?

A: For me the most important are:

  • Listen to your team
  • Create an environment where they feel motivated and safe at the same time
  • Trust your team. If you can’t trust them, it is because you have not shared all your knowledge with them. Share everything so you can trust them completely.
  • Don’t expect everything to be done as you would have done it. Different paths can lead to the same outcome.

Q: What skills do you look for in the people for your team?

A: I like people to be enthusiastic, fast learners, critical, analytical, open-minded, and flexible. Good communication is also a key aspect.

Q: How do you motivate your team to achieve the best results?

A: By creating a united team. When you work or play for a cohesive team, you just want the best results for it.

Q: Tell us about a successful result achieved as a team and how did you get it.

A: We have built a whole new system to centralize in our dashboard all the stats and revenues that were being generated by us on external platforms.
It was accomplished through good planning, hard work, a lot of meetings, good communication, and cooperation between all the team members.

Q: What do you expect from the future of the industry? What needs to be improved from a technology standpoint?

A: The trend is about giving more and more privacy to users. In a few years, the industry will have to work without knowing any details about users. I think AIs will take a key role in this scenario.

Q: Do you have any idea how many emails you send per day?

A: Just a few. I receive many more than I write, mostly from automatic processes. They are important to know everything is working fine.

Q: What is the app you use the most in your daily life?

A: Google Meet. 🙂

Q: What is the first thing you do when you get home and disconnect from work?

A: I actually work from home, so it’s a bit different in my case. Luckily, when I turn off my laptop I automatically forget about work. Also, sports help me to disconnect. I usually go for a run or go playing football or padel.

Q: What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: I would buy a house, invest a part, spend the other part with family and friends and I would go for a big trip with what’s left. I may need a one-year leave of absence to do the trip 🙂 .
