José Antonio Olivera Jaén

Unity Developer

Interview

José Antonio is a Unity Developer at Taproom, our videogame company.  He has worked on the Bingo Pets developement, one of our most important games. A particular success that makes him very proud.

Question: How did you get into the sports games industry?

Answer: I joined Taproom as an intern in 2015. I’ve been here ever since.

Q: What is the best part of being a Unity Developer?

A: I think the best thing is that you are involved in almost every part of making a videogame, both in the code chopping part and in the more visual part.

Q: Could you list some tips to become a good Unity Developer? What are the essential skills needed in your job?

A: The essential part of being a good developer is patience. Both to produce tidy and readable code and to deal with impossible bugs as they appear.

Q: Tell us about a recent reliable client relationship, success story, or goal you’re proud of.

A: I feel very proud to have built a project like Bingo Pets from scratch together with my colleagues.

Q: How do you organize your day? What tools do you use and which of them are your favorite ones?

A: We mainly organize ourselves using Jira. We also use an Excel sheet where we write down both objectives and absences to see where everyone is in a quick way.

Q: What do you expect from the future of the industry? What needs to be improved?

A: I think the future is decentralization. Currently if you’re not a big company doing AAA you don’t exist. That will change in the future with smaller and smaller projects becoming known.

Q: Do you have any idea how many emails you send per day?

A: Practically none. We use Slack to communicate. It’s easier and faster.

Q: What is the app you use the most in your daily life?

A: At work, our videogame Bingo Pets. In my private sphere, it’s probably Pokemon Go the app I use the most.

Q: What is the first thing you do when you get home and disconnect from work?

A: Well, I work at home, but when I finish and disconnect from work I like to watch series and movies. I’m currently hooked on watching One Piece.

Q: What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: I would probably keep working just for hobby and buy a bigger house so I could fill it with video games and figures.
